Your people register, leave and joiner-to-leaver changes.

Willow keeps one employer's people register, employment history, leave ledger and joiner, mover and leaver work, for an employer of about 20 to 200 people with an existing payroll provider. It hands accurate changes to the payroll provider you already use. Optional connections add email notices and sign-in through your identity provider. It is free, MIT-licensed and open source.

What it does

Register people separately from their employment periods, with dated changes to title, pay, manager and location
Run joiner, mover and leaver checklists from versioned templates
Keep private documents with categories that control who can read them
Run leave policies, balances and requests calculated in hours from each person's schedule
Show who else on the team is away when someone requests leave
Prepare payroll change batches for each pay period, with exceptions listed
Report headcount, starters, leavers and leave taken
Export a payroll CSV, and bring in people from BambooHR

What it promises

WIL-01Every permission is explicit and set only by the owner, and ending someone's access ends every session without restoring permissions if access is given again.
WIL-02Before granting access, HR can preview exactly what another member would see about a person, with unreadable values reported as withheld.
WIL-03Without the grant, nobody can read private contact details, pay, confidential absence reasons or restricted documents through any page, download or export.
WIL-07A change of terms is a new version effective from a date; past versions stay, and a version can be cancelled but never edited.
WIL-10The leave ledger only ever grows, and concurrent requests cannot spend the same hours.
WIL-11Payroll change batches list every start, end, terms change and approved leave not yet handed off, and changes without a provider identifier are shown as exceptions.
WIL-12A departure cannot be marked complete while account and device tasks remain open without recorded evidence.
WIL-13A rehire is a new employment period, and ended access is not reactivated.
WIL-15Agent-prepared joiner or mover changes show the exact diff, and HR approves the plan before anything runs.
WIL-16Moving in from BambooHR shows a dry run first and keeps the original files and source rows.
