Slate
Alternative to Notion
Also replaces Confluence, Guru
Pages, databases and search in one wiki.
Slate is a team wiki for one business: nested pages in spaces, rich-text editing, comments, permissions, search and full revision history. It can take in Notion and Confluence exports.
What it does
- Write pages in a nested tree inside spaces, with headings, tables, tasks, media and link cards
- Keep structured records and databases in the same tree, with grid, board and chart views
- Comment on a selection or on a whole page, with mentions and resolving
- Share pages with people and groups at view, comment, edit or full level, with optional expiry
- Publish a page to the public web only by an explicit act, with unpublish at any time
- Use page history to compare and restore earlier versions
- Mark pages verified, with an expiry and a reminder when it lapses
- Search everything you are allowed to read
- Import from Notion and Confluence, Word and Google Docs files, and back up or restore the whole workspace
What it promises
- WEB-001A page is visible without signing in only when a member with full access publishes it and its space allows public links.
- LIFE-002A draft is hidden from search, lists and exports, and visible only to its author and people it is shared with.
- SHARE-007Access changes take effect at once.
- REV-001Every saved page version is kept unchanged with its author and time, and a repeated save with no change creates nothing new.
- SAVE-003If someone else changed a page first, your edit is rejected and your unsaved text is kept, not silently overwritten.
- ARCH-005Deleted pages go to a trash where they can be found and restored, and nothing leaves it on a timer.
- IMP-001Notion and Confluence imports show a full preview with a list of what will not carry over before anything is created, and keep the original file.
- PORT-002Restoring an export brings back pages, history, permissions, links and files so links keep resolving.
- PORT-005Exports leave out sign-ins and secrets, and imported people stay inactive until you invite them.
- IMP-004Importing fetches nothing from the internet; media comes from your file only.
