Satchel

What it does

• Search for conflicts, review every possible match and open a matter only after a lawyer records the conclusion
• Record time and expenses and prepare bills from unbilled work
• Approve a bill with a review note and download it as CSV
• Keep original files with versions, visible to the matter or to certain people only
• Record deadlines with their citations, have a lawyer confirm them and mark completion
• Give each person access only to the matters they are assigned
• Let an agent prepare matters, bills and deadlines for a person to review
• Move in contacts from a Clio CSV, and back up, restore or erase document bytes

What it promises

• A matter opens only after a fresh conflict search is recorded and a lawyer reviews it.
• A bill is reviewed by a lawyer and exported once; a changed amount needs a separately reviewed correction that keeps the original.
• A changed source document requires fresh review of its deadlines.
• An agent can only propose matters, bills and deadlines; a person approves or declines, and the decision is recorded.
• Contact import is previewed first, keeps a journal, and undo keeps contacts already used by matters.
• Erasing a file removes its bytes while keeping names, fingerprints and history, and older backups cannot bring it back.
• Satchel does not calculate court deadlines, guarantee conflict clearance, send invoices, calculate tax or handle trust accounting.

Run it yourself

Install the command once, then clone a product and start it.
