Alternative to Tablein
Table bookings, walk-ins, waitlist and guest history for restaurants.
Placemat handles table bookings for a restaurant. Guests book online, walk-ins and the waitlist share one floor, and every guest's visits are remembered. It is a free, open-source alternative to OpenTable, Tablein and ResDiary, under the MIT licence.
What it does
- Set your venue timezone, tables, turn times and cover limit
- Publish a service after you approve the exact plan
- Let guests book online into times that fit a full turn
- Seat walk-ins, run a waitlist and mark no-shows on one floor view
- Combine tables automatically when one table is too small
- Prepare approved reminder lists as a CSV for your own email or SMS sender
- Keep guest history and notes, and erase a guest's details
- Move in guest and booking history from Tablein-style CSV files
What it promises
- Owners and managers run the floor and approve plans; read-only staff can only look; move-in, erasure, backups and keys need the owner.
- Guests can see published services and make a booking, but never see other guests' contact details.
- Tables cannot be double booked, and a service's total cover limit cannot be overridden.
- If the floor changed while you were editing, the change is refused as a conflict instead of overwriting.
- Agents can prepare plans and proposals, but only a person approves, and that person is recorded.
- Reminders are an approved CSV for your own sender; no deposits, card holds, payments or messages are sent by Placemat.
- Move-in shows a dry run first, applies only the confirmed plan, keeps a journal and refuses to undo rows that were edited.
- Erasing a guest removes their personal details and blocks older backups from bringing them back.
