Penny
Alternative to Canny
Also replaces UserVoice, Productboard
Collect requests, and tell everyone who asked when it ships.
Penny is a customer-feedback tool for one software business. Customers post and vote on requests on a public board; your team records the evidence behind each request, decides what to build, and publishes status updates and release notes.
What it does
- Run a public board where customers post, vote, comment and follow requests
- Check for similar requests before a new one is posted
- Review and approve what becomes public before anyone sees it
- Record customer evidence from calls and support and link it to requests and decisions
- Compare options side by side and record a decision with its reasons and review date
- Keep an internal roadmap and show only approved items on a public roadmap
- Publish release notes and email the customers who asked
- Show which customers and accounts are behind a request's votes
What it promises
- DATA-002Nothing marked for your team only ever appears in a public page or response, even in fields the page does not display.
- EVID-006Customer account details, evidence sources and internal notes never appear on public pages or in customer email.
- REQ-005Nothing becomes public until a team member approves its title, description and each attachment.
- REQ-006Each person has at most one vote on a request, and the total counts distinct current voters.
- REQ-023Email addresses are verified with a single-use link that expires after 30 minutes.
- REQ-009A merge of duplicate requests can be reversed, restoring the duplicate's own votes, comments and followers.
- REL-011A hard bounce or spam complaint stops all further email to that address until the person verifies it again.
- NOTIFY-004Penny accepts no inbound mail, so a reply to a notification cannot create a request or comment.
- DEC-006Changing a decision later adds a new revision and keeps the original reasons and evidence readable.
