What it does

• Keep customers, billing contacts and a versioned catalogue of plans, seats and metered prices
• Start subscriptions with trials, billing days and contract exceptions
• Import usage from CSV, with duplicates ignored
• Draft a monthly bill run and compare it with the previous one
• Approve and issue numbered invoices
• Issue credit notes and record payments received elsewhere
• Show ageing and prepare overdue reminders for a person to send
• Export invoices and usage as CSV, and bring in customers and subscriptions from Stripe Billing

What it promises

• NEC-07Billing is repeatable: the same recorded inputs always produce the same invoice lines.
• NEC-10Approving a draft is tied to its exact inputs; if usage, a price or the tax setting changes, the approval no longer holds and the invoice is not issued.
• NEC-05A usage event with an id already recorded changes nothing, so usage is never billed twice.
• NEC-10Each subscription period is invoiced at most once, with sequential invoice numbers.
• NEC-11A credit note can never exceed what an invoice still owes, and a payment can never be applied beyond its unallocated amount.
• NEC-12A reminder is approved as exact recipient and wording, and downloads as a message you send from your own mail.
• NEC-14An agent can prepare proposals such as contract terms or price changes, but people decide, and Nectar computes the invoices itself.
• NEC-16Subscriptions moved in from Stripe stay in shadow and bill nothing until you adopt each one, and the move-in can be undone.
• Invoices, payments, usage and the audit trail are never edited or deleted; corrections are new records.
